Facial Fat Transfer

Conveniently located to serve St. Petersburg, FL and Tampa, FL

Also called “fat grafting,” facial fat transplantation involves removing a small amount of a patient’s excess body fat from other areas and transplanting it to the face. Facial fat transfer is excellent at restoring lost volume in the lips, temples, cheeks and tear troughs. It is also effective at treating sunken areas, lines, wrinkles, creases, acne scars and other issues caused by the decrease in volume that results from aging, sun damage and other conditions.

THE FAT TRANSPLANTATION PROCEDURE

During fat transplantation, liposuction is used to remove the fat, which often comes from the belly or thighs. The fat is then processed and purified before being injected into the face. Both the injection site and the liposuctioned area are numbed with local anesthesia prior to treatment. Unlike with other fillers and volume-enhancing treatments, because fat is taken from the patient‘s own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection and the results are permanent. Fat transplants can be performed in the office or in an operating room with light sedation or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s comfort level and preference.
